Jesus For President

Christians on the right are coming out of the woodwork to denounce me and my religion. I should have seen this coming. If I had, I would have planned a few more photo ops of me and Billy Graham at the White House.

It’s as if I’m running against Jesus for President.

The real Jesus for President is Shane Claiborne who sums up modern and historical Christianity this way:

Christianity is at its best when it is peculiar, marginalized, suffering, and it is at its worst when it is popular, credible, triumphal, and powerful.

It’s probably a good thing I don’t wear my faith on my sleeve. Back in the day, Jesus was hailed as a political messiah. The Jews hoped he would overthrow the Romans and bring Israel back to prominence.

How’d that work out for God’s chosen people back then?

If Jesus were alive today would he run for President? If so, how would one describe his base? Catholic? Baptist? Muslim? If not, who would he vote for? Liars and sinners?
