I don’t really know much about football but David Plouffe came up with a good analogy on how the Clintonians keep changing the objectives, which changes expectations. These are lessons that will be taught in college course on politics for generations.
Before the Iowa caucuses, the Clinton campaign said they would march through the primary elections toward a quick nomination and take on Rudy Giuliani in the general election. How things change. When polling suggested that Clinton might lose in Iowa, her campaign team quickly lowered expectations and called her the underdog. I had to laugh at the hubris.
After New Hampshire’s comeback and all the way to Super Tuesday, the Clinton campaign kept lowering expectations as her standing in the polls dropped.
A few weeks ago Senator Clinton was leading the polls by a wide margin in Ohio and Texas. The expectation was that when the Clinton campaign won those states she would take the lead in delegates again. Now that the race looks dead even there is no way that she can obtain enough delegates in any upcoming primary elections to win the nomination. It’s math.
I wasn’t aware that teams could move the goal posts in football, but that’s what David says the Clintons are doing. It’s still math. Sooner or later she will run out of field. Then what?
